Summer Holiday Activities
From a relaxing holiday spent at the hotel to using your room as a lovely base as you explore the great outdoors, there is always a warm welcome waiting for you at our country house.
Wiltshire in particular is a county you will want to visit again and again this summer, not to mention Somerset and beyond…
Get Hands-on: Bath Aqua Glass – Demonstrations
Bath Aqua Glass has remained a popular gift for guests visiting the area, and luckily for you they now offer the chance to see skilled glassblowers at work. Using traditional techniques, before your very eyes they will make mould-free blown glassware and if you want to, you can even try it yourself. Made by adding copper oxide to molten glass, the furnace reaches more than 1000 degrees centigrade – not for the faint-hearted!
From bauble making to interactive and non-interactive demos, ask as many questions as you can think of and the experts will help you learn more about this ancient craft – after all, Bath Aqua Glass isn’t just beautiful, it is inspired by the Roman and Georgian heritage of the city. This is just one unusual activity to enjoy this summer…
For the History Buffs: A Stonehenge Feast
The 1st and 2nd September sees the Big Feast Weekend come to Stonehenge. Based on Neolithic dining, this food festival lets you explore, taste and learn all about prehistoric food all while interacting with historical food interpreters, archaeologists and food producers. It’s set to be really special; this is a celebration for lovers of food and preparation techniques, some of which have not been seen for 4500 years! Think Roasting pits, boiling pots, sharp flints and bubbling brews – there will even be a chance to buy some dishes to take away.
Festival Fun: Fieldview Festival
Giving centre stage to emerging artists and offering informative and fun workshops, this ageless festival will delight the whole family. Money raised each year goes to worthwhile causes, so why not see it for yourself from 2nd – 5th August? Artists this year include Afrikan Boy, Brooke Sharkey, Boudica Boogaloo and Dial A Rave. Workshops are yet to be announced but will certainly offer plenty of insight into topics close to the festival and charity’s heart.
Wiltshire’s biggest little festival is a great way to spend a summer weekend, so while you are in the summer festival mood, Devizes Outdoor Celebratory Arts is also a great charity to support too. They host various events throughout the summer including Picnic in the Park, Festival Quiz Night, Carnival and a Lantern Parade.
Our Wiltshire Hotel is the perfect place to get away from it all; from our relaxing Halcyon Spa to award-winning dining and beautiful bedrooms, however you decide to spend the summer you can be sure of a memorable stay at our country house.
