Vintage Nostalgia Festival, the Wylye Valley
Looking for a different way to while away a May day? Look no further than the fantastic Vintage Nostalgia Festival, held in the picturesque Wylye Valley between Warminster and Salisbury from 2nd-4th June 2017. Just a stone’s throw from Bishopstrow’s front door, the festival is ideal for a day visit. With something to please all ages, it truly does make the perfect family festival. Whether it’s arts and crafts, vintage fair games & rides or rip roaring interactive shows your little ones are into, there is something to suit everyone! And for the grown-ups? Plenty of good music, good food, vintage fashion and good times to be had.
‘Lacock, Camera, Artists’ Family Trail at Lacock
Got a brood of budding artists on your hands? Then this is the event for you. Lacock Abbey, Fox Talbot Museum and Village is a beautiful National Trust maintained village complete with a stunning Abbey, which was the seat of the Fox Talbot family during the 1800s.In its 800 years of history, Lacock has welcomed photographers, artists and film-makers. This May half term, follow in the footsteps of almost a millennium of visitors to Lacock and capture the beautiful village in all its glory on this fun family trail.
Romans Invade! at Old Sarum
So, we’ve got your budding photographers and your mini vintage enthusiasts covered, but what about all the little historians out there? Old Sarum is an ancient town situated in the middle of Salisbury Plains. A fascinating attraction; with an Iron Age hillfort and earthworks, Norman castle and medieval cathedral there is certainly plenty to see. But, better than that, for May Bank Holiday (28th-19th May) the Romans are invading Old Sarum! Bring your brood to experience the excitement of the Roman battle re-enactment and enjoy all the fascinating landmarks at this incredible English Heritage site.
Marvellous Monsters at Longleat
Not much of a historian? Perhaps entomology is more your thing… This year bugs are taking over Longleat and you can get up close and personal with some creepy crawlies! As part of an initiative to teach children about the importance of conservation, the park will see the instalment of over 20 larger-than-life animatronic bugs as well as some real-life critters. If your little ones are mad on wildlife, then Marvellous Monsters is a fantastic day out for the whole family. Not only can you enjoy the exciting installation; but the rest of the park too!
